In honor of its 10th anniversary, the Remy Fund for Pets and Animal Services is awarding $55,000 in grants to 10 local animal organizations. Keep reading for more details including how to support these nonprofits doing amazing work in Birmingham.

What is The Remy Fund?

A special fund of the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham, The Remy Fund for Pets and Animal Services award grants to local animal organizations. Established by Ken Jackson in 2010 to honor his late dog, Remy, that passed away in 2009.

“Working with The Remy Fund Grant Committee over the last ten years, ‘to improve the lives of animals, and the humans they touch,’ has reinforced my appreciation of the value that our animals add to our lives.

I’ve always felt a special connection to animals. In 1999 my friend Spider Martin [photographer] gave me a puppy, who I named ‘Remy.’ And for ten years she shared her life with me, providing companionship and comfort through numerous significant events, including personal relationships, and the deaths of my father and mother.

This ‘animal passion’ has greatly enhanced my life.”

Ken Jackson, Birmingham area philanthropist

Through his passion and with the help of donors, Jackson has enhanced the life of countless companion animals and their humans. Jackson, also the donor of Remy’s Dog Park at Red Mountain Park, has provided over $750,000 to the fund.

Additionally, the fund has provided $400,000 to companion animal nonprofits serving Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, Blount and Walker counties since 2011. This year, VP Funds donated $100,000 to increase the endowment of the Remy Fund.
